While Des Moines Water Works has successfully supplied clean, abundant and affordable drinking water to central Iowans for more than 100 years, the associated planning, production, distribution, monitoring and challenges created by contaminated source water are not common knowledge to most citizens.
The William G. Stowe Water Academy is a free, five-session course about the history, use and management of water in the central Iowa region. The mission of the Academy is to create a network of emerging leaders who are knowledgeable and engaged in water issues. At the end, DMWW hopes Academy graduates will be empowered and armed with knowledge to educate others about water and have confidence to answer questions from family members, neighbors and co-workers.
